Sustainability Policy
Sustainability Policy
Policy Statement
- It is the policy of the Company to conduct itself and its operations in the most sustainable manner it can achieve.
- To use and re-use resources efficiently and to bring environmental, social and economic benefits to the areas in which it operates.
- We will endeavour to take appropriate action to ensure we minimise our impact on the environment by adhering to the commitments made in our Environmental Policy.
Responsibility for the Policy
- The Board of Directors has overall responsibility for ensuring this policy complies with our legal and ethical obligations and that all those under our control comply with it.
- The Company Secretary has primary day to day responsibility for implementing this policy, monitoring its use and effectiveness and auditing internal controls and procedures to ensure they are effective.
- The Management of the Company at all levels are responsible for ensuring those reporting to them understand and comply with this policy.
Compliance with the Policy
All employees must read, understand and comply with this policy.
Operating in a sustainable manner as individuals includes, but is not restricted to, the following:
- saving water;
- using renewable energy;
- efficient heating and appliances;
- walk, cycle to work or take public transport rather than driving a car;
- turn off electric and electronics completely;
- use LED lights which turn off when not in use;
- use your own mug at work;
- reuse products where possible;
- recycle packaging where possible; and
- buy locally produced products.
Operating in a sustainable manner as a business has a particular challenge in that the main product which the Company sells is mostly imported from overseas and that act of importation carries with it a significant negative environmental impact. However, the Company commits to do its utmost to source and sell more locally available products.
The Company also commits to:
- saving water where possible;
- reusing and recycling products where possible (reduce, re-use and recycle);
- keep pollution to a minimum;
- prohibit the use of materials and substances that have potentially hazardous effects on the environment, human health and wellbeing;
- ensure modern slavery or child labour is not taking place in any of our supply chains;
- encourage all employees to consider sustainability in all their actions;
- respect the principles of equality and diversity in our employment practices;
- encourage meetings online rather than those which require travel to attend them;
- using renewable energy;
- when updating our fleet, purchase or contract electric or hybrid vehicles;
- efficient heating and appliances;
- use LED lighting with movement sensors; and
- purchasing locally produced products where possible.
You are encouraged by the Board of Directors to ask questions about the implementation of this policy and to offer suggestions on how implementation can be improved.
Communication and Awareness of this Policy
The Company’s approach to sustainability in all its operations must be communicated to all Company personnel when inducted and to all agency workers, agents, contractors, sub-contractors, external consultants, third party representatives and business partners at the outset of a business relationship and reinforced as appropriate thereafter.
